Holi 2021: Do you know how Dhulendi got started. Know the reason to celebrate this festival of colors Dhulendi. Let us tell you that Dhulendi is also known by the names Dhulandi, Dhurdi, Dhurkhel, or Dhulivandan.

The Dhulendi festival is also mentioned in the Puranas. Accordingly, the festival of Dhulendi is celebrated on the date of Chaitra Shukla Pratipada. There are two stories behind celebrating it. According to the first story, on the day of Dhalundi, Bholenath devoured Kamadeva in an attempt to distroy his penance. But on the prayer of Goddess Rati, she gave a donation to Kamdev and gave him a revival. Along with this, Goddess Rati was given a boon that she will be born as the daughter of Shri Krishna. In the joy of Kamdev's reincarnation and the blessing of Goddess Rati, flowers were showered all over the world. That is why this festival is celebrated with pomp.

The second story is celebrated because of Prahlada, a devotee of Lord Vishnu. As per mythology, there once lived a powerful king, Hiranyakshyap, who wanted everybody to consider him God. But, his own son, Prahlad, an ardent devotee of Lord Vishnu, refused to bow down before him.

To get rid of Prahlad, Hiranyakshyap asked his sister, Holika to sit on a blazing pyre with Prahlad on her lap. Holika had a boon that she can escape the fire unharmed. Prahlad kept chanting Lord Vishnu's name and hence, nothing happened to him while Holika died.
